This Thursday is the opening reception for the AiR Invitational at HUB-BUB. You may be wondering: Who did Steve invite? What was the criteria by which he selected these artists? And How did he curate their works? Well, I thought I would use this post as an opportunity to share with you answers to these questions.
In response to the first question, their names are Justin Kemp, Ryan Feeney, and Ryan Macdonald. The criteria I used for selection was that they are really good friends that make really great work. And finally, I did not strictly request any specific pieces, but allowed them to send me whatever was new and interesting to them. The result is a group of very strong artwork that I think people will find entertaining, challenging, and insightful. All I will say in terms of the specific pieces in the show is that there will be photographs of obscene sunsets, a short story/video of a boy with a mustache, and bootleg Mitt Romney apparel.
Hope you all can make it!
