Caring for those who care for others….Namaste, Corinne Manning

As a member of the Spartanburg community, I always get excited about programs that enrich the lives of our citizens, bring creative ideas and solutions to the forefront and inspire us to be better. Thanks to Corinne Manning, 2010 HUB-BUB Writer-in-Residence, the peace and focus of her community yoga project benefited our program and staff in ways much greater than the money the project raised (but that money was nice, too!).

Corinne contacted us soon after arriving to Spartanburg, excited and interested in our organization and its mission to help the uninsured find resources to improve their health, and the health of the community overall. AccessHealth signed on to participate with Corinne’s yoga project and hosted a yoga event at The Showroom on August 17, 2010, from 6 to 7:15pm. Her voice soft, and with tranquil directions, Corinne led a small crowd in an hour of calm, meditative yoga and healthy balance activities and then shared the mission and vision of AccessHealth. It was a truly reflective and successful event, raising $131 and raising awareness of our new program.

But Corinne didn’t stop there.

Having met the AccessHealth staff, Corinne led our small group of employees not once, but twice more, in yoga sessions during her residency. She provided us the opportunity to take moments for ourselves, bond as a team (and connect as individuals), and celebrate our own wellness. As healthcare and social service providers, taking time to keep our work/life balance in check and focus on our own wellness is vital for continuing to care for others the best way we can. We are so grateful to Corinne for her selfless acts of yoga kindness…what a gift!
